Can I start surfskating without any experience in any board sport?

Surfskate is a very welcoming sport. You can start from zero and we will help you with the process. 

 

Can I start surfskating at any age?

Yes, surfskate is very inclusive sport and you can start either at your 20s, 30s and even 60s. We have experience coaching people from any age!

 

Can I participate in your sessions if I am a beginner?

Yes, we design our workshops and coaching sessions for different practice experience. 

How dangerous is to practice surfskate?

If you practice surfskate you will have have statistically less probability of get injured, compared with other board sports. It is a good start if you want to go to snowboarding and surfing, because you will learn how to fall securely and how to keep your balance without much risk. We always recommend using body protection and helmet in your practice. 

What is the difference between skateboard, longboard and surfskate?

Different skateboards have different technique, gear and experiences. Skateboarding usually is tighter and stable, while longboarding are wider and also stable. Longboards and surfskate have bigger wheels which make it smoother and easy to ride. But, surfskate is meant to turn more and could feel unstable until you get used to it. However, surfskate is fun to go around and to practice in flat grown, bowls and any slope you can find in the city.

How can I choose my first surfskate? 

 

Surfskates come in different sizes and shapes. Usually lenght goes from 28" to 33" but you can find also wider or shorter boards. The important thing is to choose the right wheelbase (the distance between wheels) which should correlate with your height. A short wheelbase (<17") is only recommended for a height shorter than 1.60 meters, while a person with 1.75 or above is recommended to use a wheelbase of 18" or higher.

What are the most known surfskate brands in Europe?

The most common brands are Long Island Boards (ES), Yow (ES), Slide (ES),  Carver (US) and Smoothstar (AU). If you want to buy your first board, you can send us a message and we will help you.

Is it easier to learn skateboarding or surfskate?

Skateboarding could be easier at the beginning since the board is more stable. However, the learning curve is steep. With surfskate you will have to get used to the movement and the body position. However, with our technique you will control your board in just two or three sessions that will give you freedom and confidence to learn more easily!

 

Can surfskate help me to improve my surf?

Surfskate can improve some aspects of your surf, like the stand, the movement and the turning. However, there are aspects that won´t help to improve, such as the stand-up, the paddling and the wave reading. If you are an intermediate surfer you will definetely use surfskate to improve your surf practice.

How does surfskate and surfing are connected?

The origin of skateboarding is about surfers trying to simulate their practice when waves were absent. That evolved with the surfskate trucks helping to have better turning technique. However, surfskating is a very flexible sport and there are different surfskating styles. Some prefer to get closer to surf and others play between the surf and the skate, adding new tricks and learning from both experiences.

 

What are the benefits of surfskate as a sport or body exercise?

Surfskate is a good full-body workout that helps to improve your balance, focus, and burn calories while you enjoy outdoors and have fun.
